Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller

We are a growing accounting advisory firm that supports organizations through periods of financial transition, cleanup, and stabilization. We are seeking a senior-level accounting professional to support a complex Accounting Stabilization engagement for a nonprofit organization, while also assisting with firm-wide client work, financial review, and internal team support.

This role is best suited for someone who enjoys bringing structure to incomplete or unstable accounting environments and can operate comfortably where judgment and experience matter.

About the Role

This position will support a multi-person accounting team working on a nonprofit stabilization engagement involving system validation, workflow reconstruction, and control improvements. In addition, this individual will assist with reviewing financials across other clients and supporting firm leadership with quality control and project oversight.

This is not routine monthly bookkeeping and is not a transactional role.

Key Responsibilities

Client Stabilization & Nonprofit Support

• Support a nonprofit accounting stabilization engagement, including validation of financial data and reporting
• Assist with review of bank reconciliations, cash activity, and historical transactions
• Support accounts payable workflows, payroll oversight, and internal control improvements
• Assist with reviewing and resolving system integration issues (QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, payroll platforms, donation systems)
• Help document accounting processes, controls, and methodologies as stabilization progresses
• Coordinate work across multiple team members assigned to the engagement

Firm-Wide Financial Review & Support

• Review monthly financials prepared by team members for accuracy and completeness
• Identify risks, inconsistencies, or control gaps and recommend corrective action
