Three Oaks Engineering | Durham, North Carolina
Full-time | Hybrid work schedule
Three Oaks Engineering is seeking an early-career accounting professional who wants to take ownership of an important business process and develop into a financial leader. This position will coordinate project invoicing, work directly with project managers to move invoices from draft through client submission, and help monitor and manage accounts receivable.
The position offers unusually broad exposure to the financial operations of a growing professional-services firm. In addition to project billing and accounts receivable, the successful candidate will gain experience in month-end close, financial reporting, cash-flow management, internal controls, budgeting, audit support, and other areas of accounting and finance.
We are particularly interested in a highly motivated recent accounting graduate who wants to grow with the company. As the individual gains experience and demonstrates capability, the role can develop into broader Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, and Controller responsibilities.

- Coordinate the monthly project-billing process from draft invoice preparation through final client submission
- Prepare draft invoices and supporting documentation using Deltek Ajera
- Work directly with project managers to obtain timely invoice review and approval
- Verify billing rates, contract limits, reimbursable expenses, subconsultant costs, and client-specific invoicing requirements
- Submit invoices through email, client portals, or other required systems
- Track invoice status and resolve rejected, disputed, or incomplete invoices
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and identify overdue balances
- Coordinate collection follow-up with project managers, clients, and company leadership
- Apply client payments and assist with accounts receivable reconciliations
- Assist with project setup and maintenance in the accounting system
- Support month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Assist with bank and credit-card reconciliations, accounts payable, financial reporting, tax filings, and FAR overhead audits
- Help improve billing, collections, and accounting processes as the company grows
Recommended qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting
- Recent graduates and candidates completing a Master of Accounting program are encouraged to apply
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing work accurately and on schedule
- Professional communication skills and the confidence to follow up with project managers and clients
- Strong Excel and general computer skills
- Ability to organize multiple deadlines and move work forward without continuous supervision
- Interest in learning the financial operations of a professional-services firm
- Internship or prior experience in accounting, billing, accounts receivable, or professional services is preferred but not required
- Experience with Deltek Ajera or another project-based accounting system is a plus
