Job Description

About Financial Wing

Financial Wing (FW) is a remote accounting and advisory firm built to enhance the lifestyle of every client and team member. We help entrepreneurs find financial freedom, flexibility, and peace of mind by identifying growth opportunities and delivering world-class accounting, reporting, and strategic guidance.

We put the client first, value excellence in everything we do, and operate as a continuously learning team. As our base of advisory and CFO-level clients grows, we are hiring a Controller to improve the quality and consistency of the financial work we deliver.

The Role

The Controller oversees financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls for a portfolio of FW clients. You will be responsible for the accuracy of the numbers, including month-end closes, workpaper and financial statement review, and internal controls. You will also mentor our accounting team and work with FW leadership to turn financial data into useful insight for our clients.

This is a hands-on leadership role. We are looking for someone with strong technical accounting skills, a service mindset, and a focus on making both our clients and our firm more efficient.

What You'll Do

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Ensure all client month-end closes are completed accurately and on time, including workpapers, cash flow, and financial statements.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in compliance with GAAP.
  • Deliver operational reporting such as dashboards and KPIs so clients have real-time information on their business.

Compliance, Controls & Audit

  • Develop and maintain internal control procedures that safeguard assets, ensure data accuracy, and prevent fraud, and help identify and reduce financial risk.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and other relevant laws and requirements.
  • Manage the audit process, including coordinating with external auditors, providing documentation, and addressing findings in a timely manner.

Team Leadership & Process

  • Lead and develop a team of accountants, including assigning work, providing guidance, reviewing deliverables, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Find ways to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency across the firm and client engagements.
  • Manage accounting projects such as system implementations, process redesigns, and reporting standardization.

Strategic Client Partnership

  • Support strategic financial planning and decision-making through analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Help clients take advantage of available cash-management, government, and state programs.
  • Look out for each client's business as if it were your own, guiding decisions that increase profit and cash.

What You'll Bring

  • Technical expertise: a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting under GAAP.
  • Proven experience: managing closes, controls, and audits, with the ability to lead and mentor accounting staff.
  • Analytical skills: strong problem-solving skills to address complex accounting issues, find root causes, and develop solutions.
  • Communication: effective written and verbal skills to work with senior management, clients, auditors, and other stakeholders.
  • Technology: proficiency with modern accounting platforms and knowledge of AI tools. Experience with QuickBooks Online, LiveFlow, Ramp is a plus, along with advanced Excel.
  • AI fluency: documented use cases of advanced AI usage in your work. At this level we are ideally looking for someone who is deep in tools like Cowork and vibe coding, and who can show how they have applied AI to make accounting work faster and better.
  • Continuous learning: a commitment to staying current on accounting regulations and industry trends. FW supports 40 hours of professional education each year.
  • Credentials: CPA designation preferred, but not required.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a Controller who brings the following

  • 2 to 3 years of public accounting experience.
  • Experience leading or supervising others.
  • A track record of managing multiple priorities and clients at the same time.
  • Lives in New Hampshire, southern Maine, or northern Massachusetts.

Who Thrives at Financial Wing

Our team is built on a shared set of core values. The right Controller embodies them:

  • Trust: belief in everyone to do the right thing, including character, communication, and capability.
  • Respect: treating every client and teammate the way you want to be treated.
  • Reliability: delivering what you promise, accountable and dependable.
  • Excellence: high-quality performance, measured by accuracy and timeliness.

What Success Looks Like

  • Client closes are consistently completed on time and to a high standard of accuracy.
  • Internal controls and compliance are strengthened across the client portfolio.
  • The accounting team grows in capability under your mentorship and ownership.
  • Clients receive proactive insight, not just historical reporting.
  • Bills approximately 1,880 billable hours per year (averaging 40 hours per week), while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

What You Get at Financial Wing

  • Remote work: aside from occasional client visits, team building activities, and our annual summit, this role is fully remote, so you get to work from the comfort of your home.

  • Work hard, play hard: we get the job done and done well, then take time to unwind, including team building activities throughout the year.
  • Values-driven team: we hold ourselves and each other to our core values of trust, respect, reliability, and excellence, and we expect the same from you.
