Job Description
Finance AI Trainer
*Contract · Remote · $40–$125/hr USD*
About the role
We are seeking experienced finance professionals for a flexible AI training opportunity focused on evaluating how frontier AI models handle real-world finance work, including valuation and financial modeling, credit analysis, investment analysis, budgeting and variance analysis, treasury, and risk.
You’ll bring the professional judgment you’ve developed through real finance work—challenging assumptions in an analyst’s model, defending an analysis to an investment committee, evaluating credit risk, or explaining financial performance to senior leadership—and use that expertise to evaluate AI-generated work.
In this role, you may design challenging, realistic tasks drawn from your own professional experience, such as a three-statement or DCF model with a valuation summary, credit memo and covenant analysis, investment committee memo, budget-versus-actual variance analysis, hedging or liquidity proposal, or portfolio attribution analysis. You’ll then evaluate how frontier AI models perform against the professional standards you would expect from a qualified colleague.
You will work with realistic professional files and scenarios similar to those finance practitioners encounter in their day-to-day work. Some assignments may be compact and involve only a handful of files, while others may involve larger scenarios completed over multiple days. The goal is to identify areas where sophisticated AI models still struggle with work that an experienced finance professional should be able to complete correctly.
This is not a traditional finance position. It is an opportunity to apply your finance expertise to improving AI in a structured, flexible, fully remote environment. The work is largely self-directed, and strong written reasoning is just as important as technical expertise.
Responsibilities
- Design challenging, realistic finance tasks based on real-world workflows, including the scenario, instructions, and supporting materials a professional would need.
- Evaluate AI-generated financial models, memos, analyses, presentations, and other deliverables against professional standards.
- Compare AI-generated responses to identical scenarios and determine where each performed well or fell short.
- Develop detailed grading criteria outlining what a correct professional deliverable should contain, including appropriate assumptions, calculations, risks, and conclusions.
- Clearly document errors such as broken model logic, unsupported assumptions, misinterpreted financial statements, incorrect calculations, unit or scaling errors, overlooked risks, or improper use of source materials.
- Contribute expertise across areas such as valuation and modeling, FP&A, credit, investments, markets, treasury, and risk.
- Review and refine finance tasks and evaluations developed by other subject-matter experts.
Domain qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on experience preferred in corporate finance, investment finance, banking, markets, or a related financial discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree in progress or completed in finance, economics, business, accounting, or a quantitative field.
- Strong practical expertise in at least one of the following:
- Corporate finance and FP&A
- Equity or fixed-income research
- Portfolio management or trading
- Credit analysis and underwriting
- Investment banking, M&A, or corporate development
- Treasury and liquidity
- Market, credit, or liquidity risk
- Wealth or investment management
- Insurance, actuarial, or underwriting
- Working knowledge of adjacent finance workflows sufficient to evaluate whether work was completed correctly.
- Practitioner-level financial modeling skills, including building and reviewing models such as three-statement, DCF, comparable-company, credit, forecasting, or budget models.
- CFA, CPA, FRM, securities licenses, or similar credentials are welcome but not required. Practical expertise is highly valued.
General requirements
- 2+ years of hands-on professional experience preferred. Candidates with less experience may be considered when they can demonstrate meaningful practical expertise.
- Ability to draw from real-world professional experience to develop scenarios that test whether an AI system can accurately perform finance work.
- Recent or current hands-on practitioner experience is strongly preferred, rather than exclusively managerial oversight.
- Professional or native-level written and spoken English with strong written communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain complex financial reasoning and articulate why a result is correct or incorrect.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working through ambiguity, unfamiliar documents, complex models, and large sets of financial information.
- Ability to independently interpret feedback, research unfamiliar topics when necessary, and apply guidance without extensive oversight.
- Ability to learn new workflows from written instructions and training materials.
- General familiarity with AI and large language model tools such as ChatGPT or Claude.
- Baseline technical proficiency with cloud-based file tools, spreadsheets, browser-based applications, desktop applications, and everyday file management.
- Flexible availability based on project opportunities.
- Based in the United States, Canada, or the UK.
Compensation and terms
- Pay: $40–$125/hr USD, depending on project type and expertise.
- Independent contract opportunity.
- Fully remote.
- Flexible scheduling with no fixed weekly hours commitment.
- Project availability and rates may vary based on expertise and current project needs.
- AI tools required for project work may be provided through the platform.
What to expect
- Apply through the provided referral link and create your account.
- Complete the standard skills assessment for your field. The assessment is approximately 2–4 hours and is unpaid.
- Complete the assessment independently. All submitted work must be your own and completed without the use of AI tools.
- If you successfully complete the assessment and are accepted onto the platform, you may gain access to available projects aligned with your skills and experience.
- Additional training or qualification opportunities may become available within the platform, allowing you to progress into more specialized or expert-level AI training projects.
- Depending on the project, you may develop realistic professional tasks, evaluate AI-generated work, create grading criteria, and participate in expert review.
- Project availability, scope, hours, and compensation can vary. Participation in one project does not guarantee ongoing work or acceptance into every project.
